Brown Barbet

This Brown Barbet is Sabah/Brunei race Calorhamphus Fuliginosus Tertius.
I have seen them in various type of forest in Brunei include lowland forest, peat swamp, and this photo taken in wetland birding.
I can see them 70% birding at wetland. Usually in pair but sometime could be six in a group.

The wetland I go for birding is also got secondary and primary lowland forest.

I just sit and wait over viewing the dead trees around which can spot other birds visiting the area.

The place is newly discovered last month 19th February 2015'.

Although it is new it is home to many species of birds.
I spend 3hours in the morning and 4 to 6hrs in the evening. as from 19th february to 19th March 2015 I have over 70 species birds.
However those base on what I have spotted.

Tutong Wetland in search for Wild Duck

Yesterday I went to Tutong Wetland in search for Wild Duck since i do not have their photo.
The last time I saw wild duck was 2009' Kuala Belait pass Sungai tujuh.
That time I was equip with binocular only.
The Duck population also not that many i see maybe around 9 - 13 ducks.
But yesterday I went to Tutong Wetland and arrive the location at 11am.
I was dripping wet which you could imagine the weather like at that hour.
I started to use binoculars and taking photo of the wetland as attach.
Because it is hot I wanted to go since no bird or duck to be seen.
I think that is around 12:40pm.
As soon as I started to leave the place.

I hear whistling call.
Very noisy that stopping me to leave.
I started to follow the call and look through binoculars.
Ah! I finally found my wild Duck.
It is approximately 70 - 110 metres away from where I was sending.
My camera have only extension lent could not take good photo as you all see attach.
What amaze me is that the numbers of the wild ducks.
I thinks it is easily over 100 ducks.
I also think they few species.
I need to go back there again with just binocular to identify the species around.

Sorry everyone photos no that good.

Proboscis Monkey テングザル

WHAT IS THEIR FUTURE?
Everyone should be proud that it take less than 5-minutes boat ride to see this elusive Proboscis Monkey than other Borneo neighbors.
This elusive monkey is not just found in Borneo island but it is one of the world largest monkey IUCN Highly endanger.
The local water taxi, and tours agency have benefit from the proboscis monkey in tourism industry.
Proboscis Monkey tour were first introduce in 1997' and become the most popular tour after Ulu Temburong National Park till today.
During that time the population are great which you can see minimum of 3 - 5 individual group. Now some tourists say they did not see any proboscis monkey.
Now the Question is What is their FUTURE (Proboscis Monkey)?
Are the local population increasing?
Are they loosing their habitat (Mangrove forest) the leaf are the monkey main food?
My last trip on the river my boatman were complaining that the number of group have reduce. With sarcastic way I asked him "What can you do" he just smile. He became silent when I ask what happen if all the monkey suddenly GONE?
What do you do for income? if there is no Proboscis Monkey? Silently.
Than he asked me. Can we help to protect the monkey?
I answer "NO!" & "YES".
No if it only both of us protecting the monkey.
Yes if everyone help and taking the responsibility not just for the future generations but continuing benefit to everyone and also sustaining the population of Proboscis Monkey.
I am not blaming anyone here.
But we all need to do something or act now to find way to help the Proboscis Monkey before it to late.
No point to use umbrella when we already wet.

I was once told that this one as shown in the photo could be a new Prevost's species.
So far i do not know how true it is.

Pink-necked Green Pigeon コアオバト

Both female and male Pink-necked Green Pigeon landed on the near by tree at the nature camp.
They landed long enough for me to take the chance to photograph.
They are just resting since the tree got no fruit for them to eat.
Pink-necked Green Pigeon are commonly seen around the campsite both morning and afternoon.
They always travel in pair.
Not sure if the male will feed the female during nesting like the hornbill do.
