I was heading back to the base and since it was rain heavily I decided to take shelter at one of the farm hut.

Though! I was alone taking shelter but someone came much earlier than me.

I was accompanying by the Bornean leopard cat as you can see the photo.

She did not run away. I don't want to frightening her so I just take single photo and we both take shelter.

It is amazing to have unexpected date to a beautiful wild cat.

Blue-Headed Pitta

Blue-Headed Pitta by Jungle Dave Brunei
Expect The Unexpected BRUNEI forest bird – with the long search, waiting and wondering what happen? It’s finally returned to Meriuk Farmstay the Blue-Headed Pitta one of Borneo endemic forest bird.

Blue-Headed Pitta is Vulnerable
Lot’s more things I needed to learn their behaviour which makes bird watching exciting. Wonder where he goes and why before returning the same location was found 2016. However this time we only spotted only the male. There is no sign of the female. Maybe she is nesting or killed by other? All this is just questioning me?
However, I am glad he's back and enable for me to have more opportunity to conduct the study. Welcome home, Blue-Headed Pitta.

Little Green Pigeon

 Little Green Pigeon
EXPECT OF THE UNEXPECTED BRUNEI FOREST BIRD when I first came to conduct fauna preliminary research at Meriuk Farmstay early 2015’ there is not bird nesting around the fruit farm. Three years later a positive signed show several birds’ species started to nest around the fruit farm.

Like this Little Green Pigeon, both females worked together building their nest on sandal tree which planted by the local farmer where the picture was taken.

The other birds nesting around Meriuk Farmstay pacific swallow, Eurasian tree sparrow, crimson-winged woodpecker, Rufous Woodpecker, Black & Red Broadbill, Little spider hunter, Common Iora, Zebra Dove, Spotted Dove, Pied Fantail, Red-bearded Bee-eater, and the Borneo endemic Dusky Munia.

Sorry, we do not take a photograph of the birds nesting ever since our experience bird would stop nesting the location if they disturb.

Scops Owl

BE EXPECTED OF THE UNEXPECTED BRUNEI BIRD it has been a really good evening for the past several days. Last night at 2am I was woken up by the call of the Collared Scops Owl also known as Sunday Scops Owl.

Take me almost 40 minutes to search for him on the durian canopy. Even I have spotted it still struggling to photograph the owl. It is almost impossible to search for him on the canopy especially when it stops calling.

I was bitten by fire ants to photograph the Collared Scop Owl. The only good place to have a good view of the owl was right on the fire ants nest. I photograph the owl quickly before more ants climb all over me.

Large Frogmouth

BE EXPECTED OF THE UNEXPECTED BRUNEI FOREST BIRD another satisfying bird photographer who travels all the way from Sweden just to photograph the Large Frogmouth in Brunei rainforest.
We start searching for the large frogmouth at 10:00pm in the forest. After several hours’ disappointments search for the bird we finally able to photograph this amazing Large Frogmouth we almost eye level.
As a bird guide, I feel so relieved to spot the frogmouth and happy with joy to watch both the bird and the guest.
Well, I did not express it out but in my heart, oh no! Not in front of the guest who was photographing the bird.
I always happy when never my guests see what they wanted, although they know - Nature cannot promise.
He takes lots of photographs since the frogmouth stays for two hours twenty-five minutes. Believe it he even manages to take 3-minutes break before taking more photos.
In the end, we both cry out “WOW we did it!” worth of the search he said although I almost think that you were bluffing Jungle Dave. I don’t think there is a frogmouth in this forest but you prove me wrong. THANK YOU!
This photo was taken on the 5th March 2018 in Brunei rainforest (Borneo)
